From My Library

I picked up a book I've had in my library for some years now and decided to give it a fresh read. It's the biography of Henry Allan Ironside by E. Schuyler English. (English was the general editor of the Scofield reference bible and a close associate of Ironside) Ironside was a transplant from Canada to California in the late 1800s. He became associated with the Salvation Army as a young boy with an ardent zeal to save souls and preach the gospel. He moved around the Los Angelus area, San Francisco, San Diego and San Bernardino. Later he worked with the Plymouth Brethren, speaking in their assemblies all around the country. In 1930 Ironside accepted the invitation to the Moody Bible Church in Chicago where he pastored and wrote for many years. I first came across his writings when I as young Christin going to college in San Bernardino. HA Ironside wrote several commentaries on books of the bible and was a balanced expositor of the scriptures. So I wanted some light reading and have been delighted by this little book the past couple of weeks. I've found it to be inspiring, reminding me of my priorities and holy trust that has been committed to my care as both shepherd and teacher. I really love those who commit their lives to the faithful study and true exposition of the scriptures. May their tribe increase!

I just wanted to pass along some words of encouragement to you, Pastor Heitzig. Your blog is really well-written and a joy to read.^^ I've been reading your blog for some time now, and through it, you are reaching out and influencing people's hearts and minds.

Sometimes, at a large church like Calvary Chapel, it can be difficult to get to know the pastor's personality. Through your blog, I feel as though I am getting to know my beloved pastor better and better! I have been a member of Calvary for over 10 years, and I am so awestruck by how our Lord has been able to open the lines of communication between His shepard and His flock.

God bless you Pastor Heitzig! You are doing an outstanding job and we love you.

PS: I tried making fish tacos the other day, and let's just say I'll stick to chicken or beef!

That's right!

I've been listening to this teacher named Paul Washer recently. He tends to sound very much like the good old fashioned gospel preachers of 75 - 150 and some years back.

This man refers to himself a Calvinist but teaches and preaches just like an Arminian. In trying to figure out and research where he was coming from, because I had suspected that he was a Calvinist, I found another individual with these similar sentiments about him. That person went on to say that Corrie ten Boom also lived out her Dutch Reformed doctrine the same way.

I know that some Calvinists DO NOT make room for us if given half of a chance. However, I do wonder if it is not the higher road to allow room for some of these guys if their over all doctrine is Godly, well studied and reaching out to the lost?

That would be my feeling anyway. :)

Bart, the key with the fish tacos is the right fish grilled nicley--Maha-Mahi doesn't have that fishy taste. It's mild and soft and with the right Salsa can be an almost other-worldly experience--I gotta go--now I'm hungry again!

Rebeca, Yeah that whole u-stream thing is still new to me. That was our first try with it. We'll get it down and stay better connected next time. Thanks
